Block Island

Friday afternoon at work, a guy from my office asked if anyone wanted to buy two tickets for the Block Island trip the next day. He couldn't go last minute. (Kaman has a club that offers discounted trips every month, like the Mary Poppins trip we took a couple months ago.) The weather was supposed to be beautiful, so I quickly asked Jason. He called his mom to see if she could watch the kids and she agreed. Jason's been working so much lately, we absolutely jumped at this chance.

Since we dropped off the kids the night before, we could quickly get up, grab a fast bite and meet the bus by 7:30. We arrived at Point Judith by 10, and hopped on the ferry. It was a perfect day. We just stood on the top of the ferry and watched the boats, water, just chatting away. It was breezy, so happy I brought my sweatshirt!

This is the view from the ferry.

Just arrived, picked up a map, and made out a plan for the day.

This is the main town, tons of shops, places to eat. So pretty!!

I was in heaven with all the flowers. It was a feast for the eyes. And you could smell them everywhere. They were just spilling over every fence, every entrance, every corner...just beautiful.

Here we are on our way to the Mohegan Bluffs. Scenic 2 mile walk..

This is the Atlantic Inn...wedding was happening that day. As I mentioned on Facebook, I am totally booking this for Addie's wedding. It was spectacular. I kinda wanted to buy a dress and crash the reception so I could see it all lit up at night too.

Still making our way down. I kept making Jason stop so I could take pictures, it was so pretty.

The houses were simply charming. Lots of natural grasses and stone driveways, I especially loved the non-paved driveways. They fit right in with the Island. And by the way, how easy is that?! Although, with this particular house, it had a giant pirate on the lawn too. It was at least 7 feet high. Totally yucky, they need to get rid of it. I cropped him out of this picture.

This is the Southeast lighthouse. I wanted Jason to climb to the top for a picture, but they make you pay $10 for a tour, you can't just skip the tour and go up. So we didn't do it.

With my back to the lighthouse.

Made it to the Mohegan Bluffs! What a climb!! You have to go down 250 stairs, then over more rocks to get there. Totally worth twice that. It was beautiful!

Here is my co-worker at the bottom of the stairs, with his wife.

Can you say, From Here to Eternity??

This got us totally stoked for NC, water was very cold, can't wait to hit those waves!!!

This is a church we saw on the way back. Note the cross is also an anchor - clever!

After we returned to town, it was past 2pm. We stopped at the Mohegan Cafe and Brewery. We were seated right next to an open window, with the breeze just right. We were famished from our huge hike! We ordered drinks, sampled the local brew. Crab cakes of course for appetizer, I had fish and chips, Jason got a yummy clam roll. So GOOD!!!

Then we headed out to the shops, just meandering around. We found funny t-shirts for each other, and then went to get homemade ice cream. Soon it was time to meet the ferry to head home. The ride back wasn't as chilly, and we were all aired out and pooped! We met back up with my co-worker and chatted while we sailed home.

On the bus, they played 50 First Dates, which we both enjoyed. We got back to the car by 9, stopped at my in-laws to scoop up our sleeping children and came home.

Block Island is a very beautiful, romantic place - I highly recommend!!! Great place for a little weekend away. Can't wait to return. :)

so beautiful! I went as a child once with my mom and I think we brought our bikes. I remember thinking it was beautiful and I wanted to return- haven't done it yet. Looks like you had a great day.

Sounds like a great day! Do you have any uncropped of the ugly pirate statue?

No, sorry. Why?
